Experts by Experience: young people shaping the hearings system
A new national participation group will give children and young people with lived experience of hearings the chance to shape the work of the Children’s Hearings System.
Experts by Experience is CHS’s group for young people aged 14 to 25. Expressions of interest are now open via the CHS website and will close on Thursday 31 October at 5pm.
Lived experience influencing change
The group will meet four times a year roughly every three months, and members will be remunerated at a daily rate of £180. Anyone wishing to apply does not need specific skills or knowledge. Instead, CHS is looking for passion and lived experience.
We know that young people with lived experience of hearings want to have their say on the hearings system. Experts by Experience is an opportunity for young people to tell us what matters to them and improve outcomes for children attending hearings. Group members can influence meaningful change, meet new friends and develop skills and confidence for their day-to-day lives.
The group will receive comprehensive support from CHS’s Participation team.
Bold investment
Alice Wadkin, Lived Experience Adviser, says: 'CHS has made a bold promise to invest in the voice of lived experience. Who better to hold us accountable than children and young people who have personal experience of the hearings system?
'We are really excited to launch Experts by Experience and build new connections with young people across Scotland.'
